Rollo Mire Kintore

Rollo Mire is a small oasis that consists of an area of wet woodland swamp and related habitats situated to the immediate south west of Kintore, Aberdeenshire. It is a small haven for a wide variety of different wildlife and fauna and a locally important example of an increasingly rare habitat.

Deer are regular visitors to the Mire and its wetness also proves to be an attraction to wildfowl, particularly those on a winter passage. Many birds, including Snipe, Teale and Sedge Warbler have been spotted in the area.

Greenbelt has been managing the Rollo Mire since 2003.  The management objectives for the Mire are protection and enhancement of existing habitats, through sustainable management techniques thereby encouraging the wildlife interest and a diversity of vegetation in this semi natural environment that has formed over the years.

An important aspect of Greenbelt's management is to maintain and monitor the reed beds and wet woodland fens making up the Mire, as well as the Purple Moor and rush pastures that have evolved primarily as a consequence of the agricultural abandonment of the area.
